USA Hockey Coaching Clinics
USA Hockey's Coaching Clinic Season
It will be very important for all COACHES to PLAN AHEAD to make sure they are getting the correct certification so they are not scrambling at the end of October (split season) or December (full season).
The coaching clinic season for Levels 1-3 officially runs from September 1 to December 31. Level 4 clinics are typically held from March to August with some districts holding them as late as September/October. Clinics for the 2010-11 season will begin to appear in late August with more posted throughout the clinic season. In order to receive credit for the clinic all attendees must stay for the full day. All clinics must be attended in sequential order and you will only be able to attend two clinics a year.
- Level 1 It is really important that all coaches do the LEVEL 1 CLINIC FIRST. It puts their name into the USA Hockey system and provides the coach with a CEP coaching card. This will eliminate some of the problems with coaches not being in the files of USA hockey and it is the best way for any new coach to get introduced to USA Hockey. There is No Waiver for Level 1. A coach can not register for a Level 2 or Level 3 clinic on-line without a Level 1 certification. Walk-ons are always very limited or non-existent.
- Level 2 needs a helmet, skates, stick and any other equipment they want to wear. You can not register on-line without first completing a Level 1 clinic.
- Level 3 has not ice session so no skates or helmet are needed. You can not register on-line without first completing a Level 1 & 2 clinics.
If you don’t see a clinic near you right away, continue to check the website as clinic instructors add clinics on a weekly, if not daily basis. If you do not see one in your area, you may need to travel to a neighboring state to locate a clinic before the end of the calendar year or the start of the next clinic season. Clinics are posted by clinic instructors at their discretion. Please contact your District Coach in Chief for more information.
An order to be on the bench coaching you need to be certified for the Level for that team. The deadline is October 31,2010 for split season coaches and December 31, 2010 for all other coaches. If you are not certified at the right level after the due dates then you will no longer be able to be on the bench coaching for that team.
