The objective of USA Hockey’s Player Development Program is to select and train the most competitive men’s and women’s ice hockey teams to represent the United States at the Olympic, National, National Junior and Select levels of international competition.
The attainment of this goal begins each summer as USA Hockey hosts a series of National Player Development Camps for boy’s players ages 15, 16 and 17 and girls players ages 15, 16, and 17. Nearly 1,300 athletes representing each of USA Hockey’s 11 Districts participate in the camps, which attract scouts and evaluators from every level of hockey. Camp participants receive on and off-ice training under the direction of leading USA Hockey coaches, along with current and former National Hockey League and Women’s National Team players. There is an evaluation done, at the Local and District Levels, to determine the selection of the participants.
Within NED, it starts at each state's tryouts for boy’s ages 14 through 17 and Girls 12/13. Girls ages 14-17 are done as a region and the district conducts the tryouts.
Each state in the New England District conducts tryouts to send representation to the New England Camps for Boys ages only. These five states include CT, NH, RI, VT, and ME. The goal is to send up to 17 best players (15 skaters and 2 goalies) from the state tryout at each of the boys' age groups (12-17) and Girls 12/13, however NHAHA can and will reduce the numbers based on skaters ability . Girls 14/15 and 16/17 age groups conducted as a New England District tryout in the fall in NH.
New England provides more player evaluation and player development after the New England Festival tournament is complete. New England provides a 3-4 day camp for the 12-17, with the location to vary. The announcement of the camps dates and locations will occur sometime after the tryouts. There is a yearly cost to attend these camps and it normally ranges between $600 to $800, depending on the age groups and the length of the camp. This provides a setting that allows athletes to compete at their highest level. It is not a tournament, but rather a grueling few days of training and competition meant to highlight our players. Winning is not important. The top priority is players experience a camp of development, on ice and off ice knowledge and outstanding competition with a range of coaches from New England's Prep Schools and Colleges.
Players selected at their State's tryouts (Girls 14, 15, 16 & 17 at the NE tryouts) will be notified by NED how and when to sign up. We recommend you Sign up Early and Attend.
