Dear New Hampshire Hockey Parents,
The New Hampshire Amateur Hockey Association, USA Hockey, and the AHL Manchester Monarchs, proud affiliate of the Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, have produced a series of videos to assist in educating parents on the technical aspects of ice hockey. It has been proven in other areas of the world that youth athletes benefit significantly from parental support, both in terms of emotional support and technical support. Hockey-educated parents have the ability to encourage young players to use and develop skills that are being taught on the ice, especially as part of the USA Hockey Advanced Development Model.
To provide the skill instruction, several local college and professional coaches have volunteered to teach parents individual skills and game-situation plays that are key parts of hockey. These coaches will discuss important technical aspects of the game for your benefit, so that you can learn and support the development of your child as he or she grows through hockey. Kids typically spend only 3 to 4 hours per week with their youth coach, however, knowledgeable parents can supply additional support to the coaching beyond the ice arena.
We would like to thank Saint Anselm College for offering the use of Sullivan Arena for this project, as well as head coaches Ed Seney (men) and Kerstin Matthews (women) for their time and instruction in the videos. We would also like to thank Louis Chabot, of Chabot's Specialized Hockey Programs, and Andrew Leach, of Leach Brothers Hockey, for their instruction contributions in the segments.
